Road log

Longer notes that do not fit a fact sheet: where the road's name comes from, how to arrive in a Calgary winter, and how New Year's Eve 2026 stacks up at the hotel.

Entries

  1. 31Oct 2026

    The runner behind the name

Deerfoot Trail, Barlow Trail and the Calf Robe Bridge: what the road names around the hotel remember.

  2. 31Oct 2026

    Winter arrival checklist

Arriving by car between November and March: road reports, the lot, the morning after.

  3. 31Oct 2026

New Year's Eve 2026 on the trail

Two shows, a buffet and a brunch in one building, and why the room matters more than the ticket.

Why a log

Fact sheets age badly in one direction: they look complete when they are not. The log is where we explain the context behind the tables and note what changed. Each entry is dated. When a fact in an entry stops being true, the entry gets a correction line rather than a silent edit.

Pulling in for a night? Ask the desk to check a room

Four fields are enough to start; the rest is optional. The desk checks availability and the current rate with the hotel's reservations or a booking partner and answers by email. This is a request, not a booking: no card details, nothing charged. If a request becomes a confirmed stay, the hotel or the booking partner pays this site a commission — how that works.

Request received. The desk answers by email, usually within one working day.
